Friendly Game Not about Winning – Former Super Eagles player

Super Eagles players celebrate one of their goals against Saudi Arabia in the friendly game that ended 2-2

The 2 -2 draw result in the friendly game between Super Eagles and Green Falcons of Saudi Arabia played on Friday in Portugal has been described as a good game by former Super Eagles player, Sam Sodje, reports www.totorinews.com.

Sodje said the Super Eagles played against a team that was at the last FIFA World Cup and it was very glaring that the team was not a push over throughout the duration of the game.

“I think it was a very good game. Super Eagles played against that went to the last World Cup. Saudi is a good side and  their football is growing so fast. Some of their players are also abroad,” Sam Sodje told www.totorinews.com

“You could see that the opponents scored and even when the Super Eagles equalised and went ahead, they kept pushing for equaliser, which they eventually did.

“But a friendly game is not about the result. The friendly game gives the coach a good time to look out for some players, especially the new ones and those making a return to the team.

“It is more about the performance of the players and if the team wins, good, but the main thing is the system the coach wants to try and to see if it can be implemented in competitive games and to see how they can adapt to it,” he said.
