Football is a very dicey game. Who would have thought that Bendel Insurance will not smell victory in Benin against Niger Tornadoes of Minna, but the team ended up on a losing note 1-3 at home.
More shocking was the fact that Insurance were trailing 0-3 at the end of first half.
No Nigerian league pundits saw this coming.
Akwa United did not find it funny this Wednesday evening . The team lost at home in Uyo to Doma United. Akwa United that defeated Plateau United two weeks.
Anyway, I was not surprised with Doma Utd earning an away victory. The fans of Rivers United will not forget Doma Utd in a hurry when they welcomed the Savannah giant killers to Portharcout few weeks ago.
It ended 3-2 in favour of Rivers United. The interesting thing was that Doma played a very attacking football. The team did not park the bus. It was an end to end attacking football from both teams.
One beautiful thing to note is that, in all these away defeats of the home teams, their fans did not behave unruly or showed any act of violence.
The teams swallowed up the bitter pills of defeat in peace and life goes on. It was simply football and nothing much. No lives lost. No property destroyed.
This is the main reason that the leadership of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) led by Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye should be commended for their efforts in positioning the league to an enviable heights.
NFF under the amiable leadership of Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau have also created an enabling environment for the elite league to grow, while also clearing out the bad eggs among the Nigerian Referees.
Some of the foxes ( referees) that want to spoil the vine of NPFL have received various levels of punishment from the no- nonsense Gusau- led NFF.
If you rubbish Nigerian football as a referee with biased officiating, you will also be rubbished with suspension. This has been the stand of the Nigeria Referees Committee under the NFF.
