Sheikhadam FC have emerged champions of the Gwagwalada Chairman’s 100 Days in Office Football Tournament after edging Anagada United 1–0 in a keenly contested final.
The decisive moment came as early as the third minute when Sheikhadam FC found the back of the net, a goal that ultimately proved enough to secure the coveted trophy.
The tournament, organised by the Special Assistant to the Gwagwalada Area Council Chairman on Sports and Recreational Development, Barrister Babatunde Akintade Bocknor, attracted 34 teams from across the area council.
Sheikhadam FC started the final brightly and immediately took the game to Anagada United from the blast of the whistle. Their early pressure paid off when they scored in the third minute.
Anagada United responded by pushing forward in search of an equaliser, but the Sheikhadam defence stood firm to preserve their lead until the end of the first half.
The second half produced further attacking exchanges, with both teams making dangerous incursions into each other’s vital areas.
However, resolute defending from both sides ensured that no further goal was scored as Sheikhadam FC held on to claim a 1–0 victory.
Speaking to sports journalists after the final, the Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Alhaji Kasim Mohammed Ikwa, commended Barrister Akintade for organising the tournament within a short period.
Ikwa described sports as a powerful unifying factor capable of bringing people together, while promising that the 2026 edition of the Gwagwalada Chairman’s Cup would be bigger and attract attention from across the Federal Capital Territory and beyond.
He congratulated Sheikhadam FC for winning the competition and praised all the participating teams for their commitment and sportsmanship.
The chairman also wished the teams that could not win the tournament better fortunes in subsequent competitions within Gwagwalada Area Council.
The final attracted a large crowd of football enthusiasts, with supporters turning out to witness the culmination of the competition.
Awards and prizes were presented to outstanding players and teams at the end of the tournament.
The triumph marked a memorable conclusion to the 34-team competition and further highlighted the role of grassroots football in promoting unity, youth engagement and sporting development in Gwagwalada. The final match was played at Government Day Secondary School Gwagwalada Abuja.
