Millions of football loving Italians are supporting Argentina to win the Qatar 2022 World Cup, says Italy – based Nigerian player, Sulaiman Oyewale.
In an exclusive chat with www.totorinews.com from his base, Oyewale, who plies his trade with Giugliano Calcio in Italia Seria C said that despite the non – qualification of Italy for the Qatar 2022 world cup, most Italian football fans are following the tournament with keen interest for Argentina to win the trophy.
“The Italian fans are watching the world cup games. It is bad that your own country is not participating in the world cup but at the same time i noticed that Italians are all backing Argentina to win the world cup,” Oyewale said.
“I think Argentina and Italy have strong historical ties. Many Italians adore Lionel Messi. In Napoli for instance, they still respect the exploits of Diego Maradona till date.
“Italians have fond memories of Argentine players like Gabriel Batistuta, who played for Fiorentina and the rest of them, that are still active in Italian clubs.
“When I look at all these, I think that is the reason they are supporting Argentina to win the Qatar World cup,” he said.
Argentina and Croatia will trade tackles in the semi – final clash of the Qatar 2022 World Cup on Tuesday night.
