At the on- going FIFA Club World Cup tournament in the United States and despite the fact that no Nigerian clubside is participating, a Brazilian football stakeholder, Alberto Reveli has revealed his love for Nigerian brand of football, reports www.totorinews.com.
Revelli disclosed that most football fans in Brazil fell in love with Nigeria football the day the Olympic Eagles defeated Brazil at the semi finals of the football event, 1996 Atlanta Olympic games, adding that Kanu Nwankwo’s goal and unique celebration became the trade mark jubilation of some players in Brazil.
Revelli became very excited when yours truly covering the tournament introduced himself as a journalist from Nigeria and his eyes popped up with excitement.
“You are from Nigeria. Great country. You’ ve got very good players. Where is Kanu. Oh! Brazil will not forget 1996 Olympics. What you guys did to us was very painful, but we started loving Nigeria team when Argentina were also beaten in the final” Revelli told www.totorinews.com exclusively at the Lincolm financial field in Philadelphia.
“As at that time, Brazil had never won the football olympics gold medal. It was very sad then, but now, Brazil have won it twice,” he added.
When asked if he sees the Super Eagles qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, he replied in the affirmative.
“Your team can still qualify. Nigeria play good, good football, with very good players. I would love to watch Nigeria at the next year’s world. Every Brazilian here would love to see Nigeria qualify,” he said pointing to some Brazilians around him while the brief interview was on.
The world cup qualifying campaign will resume in September, 2025.
