LEAKED DOCUMENT OF NFF SUPER FALCONS WORLD CUP REQUEST ; A CONDEMNABLE GAFFE FROM THE VILLA

    By Michael Obasi

I personally want to believe that as Stakeholders it should be condemned in its entirety how the Confidential Documents containing the money the Federal Government approved for the Super Falcons participation at the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup got to the Social Media Space.

The leaked documents was littered on social media causing different levels of mix reactions, more of which were naive reactions if I may stress.

I think it is not too good for the New Government of President Tinubu to start fighting different unnecessary battles especially if the classified documents was deliberately leaked to the public from the office of the Chief of Staff in the Presidential Villa.

There are standard procedures on how the Nigeria Football Federation through the Sports Ministry present it’s case for funding when it comes to Nigeria’s participation in major International Tournaments.

This is not the first time the Nigeria Football Federation is requesting intervention funds From the Federal Government via her parent body, the Sports Ministry, and it will not be the last.

So I find it very malicious and dubiously intended the reason for leaking the Private documents.

The New Chief of Staff to President Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila is an intelligent and experienced Politician as I know him ,who I believe understands the workings of the office he presently occupies and should not allow anybody or malicious people to undermine his reputation with this kind of gaffe from his office.

Yes, a wrong signal because most times the public just jump on issues on the surface and such impressions are not good for the NFF brand , who goes to the Corporate bodies everyday to seek Partnership and Sponsorship.

For example , People just read that the Federal Government has approved 1.7 million Dollars for the Super Falcons participation at the World Cup.

And they think such money has landed in the coffers of the NFF because it has been approved. And again People think the NFF just woke up and come up with figures forgetting that when they do their budgeting ,they must do an estimation that reflects the entire tournament from Group Stage to the final.

And in situations where the team fails to reach the final of the tournament, the Football House reconciles with the Government via the Sports Ministry.

All these most times are not for public consumption because they are normal Intra Government processes.

I will further stress the need for more understanding between the Federal Government and it’s Agencies to avoid lacunas that will breed distrust and slow the pace of the Country’s Football Development.
