Discharged Heartland Goalkeeper, Nwakanwa thanks Totori News

Grateful heart...Edwin Nwakanwa

By Chidi-Ebere Moneme (South East Nigeria).

Heartland Football club of Owerri goalkeeper, Edwin Nwakanwa, who was  discharged few days ago from hospital in Owerri to return home to continue the next phase of his recuperation has thanked the management of www.totorinews.com.

It will be recalled that Nwakanwa suffered a leg break injury on 9th November 2023, barely two games into into the ongoing NPFL league season in a practice game, and a successful sugery was performed on him to ensure he gets back to the pitch in the next few months.

Unfortunately, the management of Heartland FC delayed in paying his hospital bills, and this caused the goalkeeper added trauma, as the hospital management insisted on full settlement of surgery before being discharged.

But relief came after www.totorinews.com published his ordeal at the hospital, where the Nwakanwa appealed to the governor of Imo State, Imo State Sports Commission, Heartland FC and other meaningful indigenes of the state to help him.

Edwin Nwakanwa in his appreciation said, “I want to thank His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma, Heartland FC head coach, Christian Obi, the Editor- In – Chief of www.totorinews.com, Mr Francis Achi and Mr Chidi-Ebere Moneme, the Reporter from the online media outfit, and my team mates, they have always been here to check up on me, care and encourage me”.

The goalkeeper went further to say, “I am going back home and i am happy to re-unite with my loved ones. I pray that the injury heals and goes according to plans, so that i resume my career before too long.”

Nwakanwa was abandoned in the hospital since 9th November 2023 by the management of the Heartland football club of Owerri after coach Christian Obi made a deposit payment of 300k Naira and a balance payment of 1.7 Million Naira left, which made the hospital refuse to discharge him.

This unfortunate situation made the reputable online media organisation ( Totori News) to publish two articles about the sad situation the goalkeeper found himself, which led to reactions from both the Imo state sports commissioner, Heartland FC officials, the office of the Imo state Governor.

And the good news, is that the hospital bill has been settled and Nwakanwa has been discharged and is now home with his beloved family recovering as expected.

It is hoped that the agile young goalkeeper will recover fully and return to active football.
