Newly crowned women’s 100metres Olympic champion Julien Alfred from a tiny island of St. Lucia has dedicated her gold medal to her Dad, www.totorinews.com reports.

“I’m thinking of God, my dad, who didn’t get to see me. He passed away in 2013. Dad, this is for you. I miss you. I did it for him, I did it for my coach and God.”

“Growing up, I used to be on the field struggling, with no shoes, running barefoot, running in my school uniform, running all over the place,” she said.

“We barely have the right facilities. The stadium is not fixed. I hope this gold medal will help St Lucia build a new stadium, to help the sport grow.
