The 2026 World Cup African qualifying draw may have favoured the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Group C more than the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Super Eagles are seeded first in the group, but travel logistics is a massive advantage to the South Africans.
Zimbabwe and Lesotho are neighbours to South Africa. The Bafana Bafana will just take a stroll away to play Zimbabwe and Lesotho. Even Rwanda is not too far.
South Africa will have a bit of stress flying to West Africa to play the Squirrels of Benin Republic and the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
On the other side, Super Eagles will only have a less stressful away trip to Cotonou to engage Benin Republic.
The team will then make tedious trips to Lesotho, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Rwanda and if you understand the stress involved in international trips to play away games in Africa, you will agree with me that the Super Eagles must now allow anything to deter them in their quest to qualify for 2026 World Cup.
Till date, Nigeria does not have national carrier. Air Nigeria is a SCAM. Kudos to the NFF for the partnership with Air Peace. Air Peace have been very reliable airlifting the Super Eagles for some years now. God bless Air Peace.
I only pointed out the logistics of travelling for away games in Africa.
What about the scenes off football pitch? Those ones are more complicated. The politics of the game deeper than you ever imagined.
It is therefore important for the Federal Government and Corporate Nigeria to join hands with the NFF to ensure the qualification of the Super Eagles for 2026 World Cup to be co- hosted among three countries- Canada, United States and Mexico.
Navigating all the football games, whether home or away is huge financial expenditure.
On paper, it looks good for the Super Eagles, but any error of not getting a favourable result in a particular game muay spell doom for Nigeria.
Nigeria is blessed with players that can condemn any African team to a defeat on a good day.
The reality is that, having the best crop of players may not be enough.
