I strongly believe that the noise made in the media over the appointment of this South African referee Tom Abongile made him to be extra careful during Nigeria vs Gabon game.
When it looked as if a penalty will be awarded against the Super Eagles, VAR called his attention to watch the replay of the disputed action on the screen, he went there, took his, checked very and came out with the verdict – NO PENALTY.
Mind you, millions of Nigerians were apprenhensive on what the outcome would be. It was therefore a very soothing relief when he took the final decision that it was not a penalty.
Kudos to every Nigerian media professionals, content creators on the social media that criticised the appointment of the South African match officials, cos the noise somehow worked in Nigeria’s facour, despite the refusal of CAF/FIFA to change the referees.
For those of you insisting that it was a penalty, referee’s decision is final. Abongile, well done.
