Former Nigeria Youth International Sambo Choji says, the Super Eagles of Nigeria can qualify for the FIFA World Cup in USA/Mexico/Canada if the players will be highly committed to the remaining matches in the qualifiers.
According to the former Saarbrukeen fc Germany scoring sensation, there is still hope of securing the 2026 World Cup ticket if they bring their A- game on board the qualifiersm
“It is up to them, the players to know what is at stake, they need 110 percent commitment, just as if their lives depends on the ticket,” Choji said.
“If in recall what happened at the Japan ’93 FIFA U17 World Cup final against Ghana, we played with love, unity of purpose and togetherness and at the end we won the FIFA U17 World Cup.
Looking at the feat of Super Eagles Team B that defeated Ghana 3- 1 aggregate the CHAN ticket after six years in the wilderness, Choji opined that some of the players should be invited into the mainstream Super Eagles.
“We should also look at the CHAN qualifier too, if the Super Eagles Team B can beat Ghana why not give them a chance to compete in the main Super Eagles.
“So, i am appealing to the Nigeria handlers and the entire team to be highly focused if we want to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in 2026,” he said.
Sambo was in the thick of the action when the Golden Eaglets won the FIFA U17 World Cup in Japan 1993, playing all six matches including the defeat against Ghana in the final.
He played most of his European club football in Germany.
