So, the match day 34 fixture between Sporting Lagos and Rangers International FC ended goalless at the MMJ stadium, Lagos and it was all celebration for the away team.
Rangers remain the table toppers after the game with 61 points and closely followed by Enyimba International FC of Aba and Remo Stars, both on 59points. The pressure is definately on Rangers, but it seems the club is unfazed.
Prior to match day 34 fixtures, Rangers had four points gap in the lead, which both Enyimba and Remo Stars reduced to two points after winning their home fixtures. Enyimba had Rivers United for dinner with 4-1 demolition, while Remo Stars laboured to a 2-1 win over Kano Pillars.
Contending for the title…Rangers International FC of Enugu
The next fixture of Rangers is against Enyimba this weekend. Sure, this is a must- win for both teams. At this stage, any team that wants to win the NPFL title must not depend on home advantage.
It is definately not going to be an easy game for Rangers, who will be under pressure to win and widen the gap if Remo Stars falter on their path. Personally, i am of the firm opinion that Rangers should have earned the maximum points against Sporting Lagos, not sharing a point with a relegation threatened team and it was celebrated on the pitch as if it was a win.
“Rangers had the game under control, created chances, sadly, failed to hit the back of the net for their efforts.” An official of the club, who wants to remain anonymous said.
Anyway, an explosive game awaits fans of Startimes/NPFL this weekend when Rangers will host Enyimba. It is a battle between title aspirant and defending champion of the league.
Mind you, only two points seperate Enyimba from Rangers. A win for the Peoples Elephants will take them to the top of the league table on 63 points with just three matches remaining.
So, Rangers why the celebration in Lagos after playing goalless draw with Sporting Lagos?
I think the real celebration should begin in Enugu this weekend, if Enyimba is beaten. Will it be possible? Time will tell.
