Soaring in the midst of storm…

The strenght of an eagle can be seen in how it navigates terrible storm to continue to soar high into the sky and that was what the Super Eagles sublimely did against the Panthers of Gabon yesterday.

This is a team that struggled to score goals at the begining of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against lowly rated teams like Lesotho, Zimbabwe and the rest, but there is a renewed vigour in Super Eagles as it is evident with the team scoring eight goals and conceeded just a goal in two games.

The Cheetahs of Benin Republic were devoured 4-0 last month in Uyo. The same fate became the lot of Panthers of Gabon in yesterday’s crucial continental playoffs that ended 4-1 after extra time.

It was not just the victory, but the manner the players rallied themselves and remained undeterred after the Panthers equalised that took the game into extra time. What was on displayed among the Super Eagles was the full resolve to win the gaeme.

The extra time was a show of strenght of character by the Super Eagles. The goal scored by Chidera Ejuke was a pure class act and kudos to Wilfred Ndidi for the pass. Then came Osimhen’s brace which took game completely beyond the reach of Gabon.

Yesterday is gone. What is before the Super Eagles now are the Leopards of DR Congo in Sunday’s final and if you watched their game against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, it is very glaring that the thing is strong and can unleash lethal pain against any opponent, if underrated.

The game on Sunday is the most important one for the Super Eagles. A win takes the team to the intercontinental playoffs in Mexico in March next year and i remain optimistic that celebration will continue in the camp of the Super Eagles at the end of hostilities on Sunday.
