The tormentor – in – chief against Dominican Republic, Salim Fago Lawal continued his terrific form for Flying Eagles with a goal against Italy, as Nigeria triumphed 2-0 on Wednesday evening.
It was the second group game for both teams at the on – going FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina, a clash of winners as Italy and Nigeria won their first game, but the Italians were ahead on superior goals difference.
But after surviving the early onslaught of the Italians, Flying Eagles came into the game gradually, threatened on few occasions with Salim’s effort paried to corner kick by the Italian goalkeeper. However, it remained goalless at the end of first half.
Flying Eagles grew in confidence in the second, with the likes of Jude Sunday, Salim Fago Lawal and new entrance into the game, Emmanuel Umeh trying to penetrate the defence of Italy.

In the 61st minute, Flying Eagles eventually got the reward for their efforts when Umeh’s perfect delivering inside the box was well connected with aerial prowess of Salim into the net of the Europeans.
Having given a superb shift of scoring against Italy to give Nigeria the lead, Salim was rested, while Haliru Serki came into the game to feel the action.
The winger was quickly involved in the game, with his dribbling runs down the flank, troubling the Italians in search of more goals for Nigeria.

And when it appears that the game was likely to end 1-0 in favour of Nigeria, Jude Sunday punished Italy with the back breaking goal in stoppage time.
Mission accomplished for Nigeria with a 2-0 resounding victory over highly rated Italy.
