Roberto Martinez Named New Portugal Coach

Former Everton Coach, Roberto Martinez has been appointed new Portugal national team coach.

Martinez who left his position as Belgium coach after their 2022 World Cups campaign in December signed a three-year contract with the 2016 European Champions

Martinez will be in charge of the Portugal national team for the Euro 2024 and World Cup 2026

Martinez was asked if Cristiano Ronaldo would be part of his new ream and this is what he said:

“Ronaldo? I want to contact and speak with the 26 players of the 2022 World Cup. He deserves to be spoken to and that we respect him

“I want to talk to the players first. Cristiano is part of my list. He has presented 19 great years with the national team and deserves respect. Tomorrow I will start my work and get to know the players and Cristiano among them.”

The Spaniard, 49, replaces Fernando Santos, who resigned after Portugal’s quarter-final defeat by Morocco at the World Cup last month in Qatar.
