Former National Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), Dr. Kayode Ajulo, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari on his Independence Day broadcast but urged him to name the financiers of terrorism in Nigeria.
In his broadcast on Nigeria’s Independence anniversary at the weekend, Buhari said:
“The recent arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, Sunday Igboho and ongoing investigations reveal that certain high-profile financiers are behind these individuals. We are vigorously pursuing these financiers including one identified as a serving member of the National Assembly.”
But in a statement, Ajulo said it had become imperative to identify sponsors of insecurity in the country, rather than shroud them in secrecy.
Ajulo, who suggested that the sponsors should be named, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the laws of the land, also urged Nigerians to support the President to combat insecurity across the country.
“We need to name and deal with them accordingly, within the ambit of the law.
Since the inception of this administration, the citizenry has been assured of the government’s utmost attention to security, which the Federal Government has vigorously pursued.
We need to be reassured, hence the need to name and deal with terrorism sponsors accordingly,” he said.
The legal practitioner added that the Federal Government and good-spirited Nigerians should assist security agencies to dominate the nation’s security space against the invasion of terrorists and other criminal elements.
On Buhari’s pledge to expand opportunities for more youths, he said: “It is also expected that youths must be engaged as there lies the present and future of the nation. Youth interventions should be all-encompassing and a holistic engagement is urged, as a solution to Nigeria’s security and economic challenges.”
