The 73rd edition of Viareggio Cup tournament will witness a modest Nigeria clubside, Mavlon Fc of Lagos competing, not just participating says Muyiwa Showole, reports www.totorinews.com.
Showole, who is the chief coach of the team said he believes that the players have the potentials to display the rich culture of Nigerian football as they file out against their opponents in Group C.
The team comprising of 30 players and officials departed the shores of Nigeria through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Friday and they are expected to land in Rome the following day, where they will quickly connect the municipality of Viareggio, venue of the tournament.
“Mavlon FC is fully prepared for the task ahead in Italy. Viareggio Cup is highly revered tournament of U – 19 players and we will be there to compete, not to participate,” Showole told www.totorinews.com before the team departed.
Mavlon Fc will tackle Jovenes Promesas U-19 team from Spain in Group C encounter that promises to be very explosive on Tuesday.
The tournament will take place at the municipality of Viareggio in Italy from 20 Mar 2023 – 3 Apr 2023.
