It was a very difficult game for me against South Africa was the candid expression of Odion Jude Ighalo to totorinews.com after the Super Eagles defeated Bafana Bafana 2-1 to book a spot in the semi final of AFCON 2019 on Tuesday night.
Ighalo, who has scored three goals in AFCON 2019 said the tactics of Bafana Bafana was to deny passes from getting to him with their closed markings but which eventually created space for wingers like Ahmed Musa and Samuel Chukwueze to operate freely.
“It was a very difficult game for me but at the end, Nigeria won. We are in the semi final. It was very difficult game for me because the way their defenders were playing , they played very close to me.” Ighalo said.
“Their tactics gave room for Ahmed Musa and Samuel Chukwueze to have more of the passes and I was not surprised.
“I know it was going to be difficult for me because they already said they will try and cage me , but winning the game was the most important thing for me. Other players scored and we won,” he said.
