The Executive Governor of Niger State, Rt. Hon. Umaru Bago has promised to build a total of 25 Stadia in the Local Governments in Niger State.
He said this at the final of the 2024 edition of Niger State Governor’s Cup Football Competition which held at the Muhammadu Kagbo Secondary School pitch 2.
The Governor made it clear that the stadium will be used by the teeming number of youths in the State for different sports. He added that this effort will positively engage the youths and take their minds from negative tendencies such as drugs, crimes and other social vices. He said the provision of these facilities will provide avenue for identification of talented youths from the grassroots level in addition to nurturing then and empowering them.
He announced that the pilot project will commence at Lapai to serve as an incentive for emerging as winners of the 45th edition of the Governor’s Cup for the first time in the history of the competition.
Governor Bago used the opportunity to announce that the next edition of the competition of the Governor’s Cup will be hosted in Zone C of the State .
Cash rewards to the Champions, runners up and third placed Local Governments. Lapai Local Government who are champions will get Fifteen Million Naira (N15 Million) only. Lavun will get Ten Million Naira (N10 Million) only while Suleja as second runners up will get Five Million (N5 Million) naira only.
The Niger State Football Association(NSFA) will also get Ten Million (N10 Million) naira only and brand new bus for consistently organising the tournament every year. The Chairman of Niger State Football Association (NSFA), Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh who doubles as Chairman of Chairmen of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and popularly called the Sardauna Kwallon Nigeria appreciated Governor Umaru Bago for approving this year’s edition and providing all the logistics in addition to his physical presence at the final is an attestation to the importance he attaches to overall governance. Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh appreciated the maximum support the State FA got from the Ministry of Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs. He was full of praises for members of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC).
Also speaking after the final match, the Chairman of the LOC Makun Lapai Alh Umaru Makun appreciated Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, his Executive Board members and the Secretariat staff of Niger State Football Association for the opportunity to serve as Chairman. He expressed that the success of the 2024 edition of the Governor’s Cup is because of the style of leadership of the Sardauna Kwallon Nigeria.
He also praised His Royal Highness, the Emir of Lapai for his royal blessings.
Lapai Local Government Team won the tournament
by defeating hard fighting Lavun Local Government Football Team by 3 goals to nil. 2 goals were scored in the first half by Isah Kasim who emerged as the highest goal scorer of this year’s edition with 12 goals.
