FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup: Ghana Bow Out After 1-0 Defeat to Japan

Ghana’s campaign at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup came to an end after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Japan in their quarter-final encounter, reports www.totorinews.com.

After a keenly contested first half ended goalless, Japan broke the deadlock in the 54th minute through Kurita Nanami, whose decisive strike proved enough to secure victory for the Asian side.

The Black Maidens fought hard to get back into the contest but were unable to find an equaliser as Japan held on to their slender advantage until the final whistle.

The result also ends Japan’s recent quarter-final jinx. After winning the title in 2014 and finishing runners-up in 2016, the Little Nadeshiko had suffered elimination at the quarter-final stage in four consecutive editions of the competition.

However, under the guidance of coach Sadayoshi Shirai, Japan have now returned to the semi-finals and will face the winner of the quarter-final clash between defending champions North Korea and the United States on November 4.

While Japan celebrate their return to the last four, Ghana will reflect on a campaign that ended at the quarter-final stage.
