Crisis in South Africa, Chippa United Boss Declares Support For Super Eagles

Siviwe Chippa Mpengesi, Chairman of Chippa United, South Africa

Less than 24 hrs to the crucial AFCON semi-final clash between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Bafana Bafana of South Africa, the chairman of Chippa United, Siviwe Chippa Mpengesi has thrown his suppprt behind Nigeria, reports www.totorinews.com

According to the football administrator, he praised Hugo Broos for what he has achieved with Bafana Bafana for sticking with mainly players plying their trade in the elite league in South Africa.

He also commended the efforts of Stanley Nwabali, the reliable safe hands of the Super Eagles for putting Chippa United for positive reviews globally, adding that, his support will go to the three- time African champions in today’s encounter in Bouake, Ivory Coast.

“As a chairman of Chippa United and a proud South African, I found myself is a unique position during the 2023 Afcon tournament in that our very own Nwabili has been a revelation; his performance for Nigeria has caught the eyes of the globe, earning him and our club international acclaim,” read Chippa’s statement on Wednesday.

“With Stanley’s rising profile and the international attention it brings to Chippa United, the benefits have been nothing but positive. Therefore, I and Chippa United stand behind our player Stanley Nwabili and the Super Eagles against Bafana. We wish the Super Eagles all the best.”

Furthermore, Mpengesi also congratulated the PSL for having a high number of players at Afcon, also praising Bafana coach Hugo Broos who “boldly trusted our domestic players, unlike previous Bafana coaches, who preferred to select players who played abroad as benchwarmers instead.”

Despite his freedom of speech, Mpengesi’s support for the Super Eagles has generated anger in the rainbow nation, as my South Africans are fuming with anger over his support for their rival as seen on the social media space.

Social media users on  X (formerly Twitter) could not control their displeasure, as thet  called Mpengesi to order. “What nonsense is this’, @K_Mfundopraise replied to this statement on Chippa’s account on X.

“Being unpatriotic is so embarrassing and beyond disgusting,” Ori_SA wrote under Chippa’s statement.

“So you’re an illegal foreigner pretending to be South African”? EliotChauke1 asked.

The match is slated for 6pm Nigerian time.
