Mark Carney’s centre-left party has managed a historic comeback according to the BBC.
The Liberal Party were well behind in the polls just three months ago, before Carney replaced Justin Trudeau as leader and US President Donald Trump upended relations and became the defining issue of the campaign.
In his victory speech, Carney tells supporters: “President Trump is trying to break us so that America can own us – that will never ever happen”
The Conservative Party, favoured to win just a few weeks ago, has still made gains,
Defeated Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre – until recently expected to become the next PM – is projected to lose his seat.
