BORNO ATTACK: “We Have Been Doing Well, But The Enemy Is Hidden Among Us” Musa Admits

Nigeria's Defence Minister, Gen Christopher Musa during an official function

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has called for an urgent overhaul of intelligence operations and stronger inter-agency coordination following the deadly attack in Borno State that killed Brigadier General O.O. Braimah.

Speaking at a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Defence, Musa stressed that asymmetric warfare is intelligence-driven, warning that without it, security forces are effectively operating blind.

He explained that unlike conventional warfare, the enemy is often concealed and difficult to identify, sometimes embedded within communities, making human intelligence critical to preventing attacks.

The Defence Minister acknowledged that while security agencies have been making efforts, operations are still largely conducted in silos, weakening overall effectiveness.

“We’ve been operating quite very well… but in silos. It is high time we put this together and work as a team,” he said.

He called for the integration of human and technical intelligence, stressing that all available information must be harnessed and turned into actionable intelligence to support troops on the ground.

Musa described the meeting as a new beginning, aimed at improving coordination, strengthening collaboration across agencies, and ensuring faster response to threats.

He also acknowledged the pressure on troops, noting that personnel operate under difficult conditions and often receive criticism despite their efforts.

The Defence Minister assured that efforts are underway to enhance operational capacity, improve intelligence systems, and provide better support for forces in the field.
