In a bid to reclaim their spot at the top of Nigerian football, 2021 league champions Akwa United have announced the acquisition of 17 new players from various clubs within and outside Nigeria www.totorinews.com can confirm.
The new signings include two goalkeepers, six defenders, five midfielders, and four strikers.
Notable additions to the squad include:
– Charles Etim, a former national U-17 and U-20 player, who joins from Blessed Stars Football Club.
– Mare Abson, a striker from Societe ASPAC Benin Republic
– Paul Acquah, a Ghanian forward from Al Anwar, Libya
– Chijioke Alaekwe, a striker from Tayaran FC, Libya
– Ruben Bala, a striker from Coton Sport FC
Other new signings include:
– Seidu Mutawakilu, a Ghanian goalkeeper from Rivers United
– Darlington Ovunda, a former Heartland FC goalkeeper
– Ubong Williams, a left-back from Katsina United
– Samuel Mathew, a defensive midfielder from Doma United
– Chiamaka Madu, a midfielder from Rivers United
– Ebedebiri Endurance, a center-back from Rivers United
– Eric Oguocha, a right-back from Plateau United
Head coach Muhammed Baba Ganaru expressed his optimism about the new squad, stating that the players have the necessary skills and qualities to lead the team to success in the upcoming season.
Akwa United will kick off their 2024-25 NPFL campaign against Lobi Stars at the Lafia City Stadium on Saturday, September 7, 2024.
