Ahlan Cup: Eight teams trade tackles in Abuja

Eight football clubs are set to trade tackles as Ahlan Cup kicks off on Tuesday in Abuja.

Abdulrahaman Umar Baba, the chief organiser of the tournament informed the media that the tournament will showcase rich football talents in the FCT, as one of the ways of the developing the game, while also commended the contributions of Shariff Rabiu Inuwa popularly known as Ahlan to the growth of the game.

“Ahlan Cup is a tournament in FCT that will promote and nurture grassroot football talents in Abuja. The essence of the tournament is simply developmental,” Baba said.

“Football is all about continue development of the game. We specially thank Alhaji Shariff Rabiu Inuwa whom we named the tournament after for his service to football in Nigeria.

“He is the chairman, technical committee of the NFF and the Super Eagles just won Silver at the AFCON 2023 tournament under his reign.

“We will be glad, if tomorrow, one or two players that will feature in Ahlan Cup continue to develop his game to the extent of playing for the Super Eagles, that is the essence of the tournament.

“We hope that the eight teams will give display beautiful football and give account of themselves, without rancour,” he said.

The eight teams participating have been divided into two groups, A and B.

The teams are Capital City FC, Sports Supply, FOSLA FC and NYSC, all in Group A, while Group B comprises of Likeminds FC, Setraco FC, FWC Champions FC and The Kings FC.

The hostilities will take place at the FIFA Goal Project, Package B, Moshood Abiola stadium, Abuja.
