It is often said that in any major football tournament, the first game is very important for a team that wants to make a strong impact and possibly go ahead and win the tournament.
It is to this effect that Austin Egwavoen, the Technical Director, NFF has cautioned the Super Eagles players not to underate Tanzania in their opening game in Group C of the Morocco 2025 AFCON later this year.
The draw was made last week where Nigeria finds herself in Group C alongside Tunisia, Tanzania and Uganda. According to Egwavoen, no team is a weakling until the 90 minutes of football is over.
The former Super Eagles defender informed that is a force in African football going by their exploits on the continents, both past and present.
“Tanzania is a force. I remember way back as a kid when i watched the 1980 African Nations Cup which Nigeria won as a host team. Tanzania was there,” Egwavoen said.

“The football in Tanzania is not bad, their league is improving every season, attracting quality players across Africa for their big clubs.
“So, which means Tanzania football is good, most of their national team players are from their league and their football is improving.
“Nigeria will never joke with Tanzania. You know that any team in Africa that wants to play the Super Eagles must their game very high.
“Super Eagles must prove that Nigeria is the giant of Africa by showing their supremacy on the field. Super Eagles have to be ready to excel in Morocco,” he said.
