EFCC Places Out – going Governor, Obiano, On Watch List

Willie Obiano, former governor of Anambra State

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has placed the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, on a watchlist, reports www.totorinews.com.

It is unclear why the commission placed the governor who will leave office next year on its watchlist.

In a letter dated November 15, 2021, and addressed to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the EFCC requested the Service to place Obiano on a watchlist and inform the anti- graft agency anytime he is travelling out of Nigeria from any of the international airports as well as other entry and exit points in the country.

Obiano will hand over to the Anambra State governor-elect, Prof.Charles Soludo, on March 16, 2022.

In September, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra had asked the anti-graft agency to probe the finances of the state in order to unearth “monumental deception”.

According to NAN, Basil Ejidike, Anambra APC chairman, in a statement, had alleged that Obiano has been “fraudulently” using the state’s security vote.

“Anambra as a state has not recorded significant growth and development since the inception of Gov. Willy Obiano’s leadership,” the statement reads.
