Contrary to earlier report in the Nigerian media space that the football agent of Daniel Daga refused to submit the international passport of the player, thereby depriving Nigeria’s Flying Eagles the services of the talented midfielder at WAFU B U20 Championship in Togo, the true picture of the story has been revealed to www.totorinews.com
According to the player’s guardian, who pleaded to be annoymous, he said that prior to the opening of the Flying Eagles camp in Abuja in early September, the international passport of the player had already been submitted at the Norwaygian embassy at Accra, Ghana.
He revealed also that the processs of obtaining European Union Schengen can be frustratingly long, which happened to be the case of Daga, who had even done the capturing, yet his passport was still at the European nation.
“The truth is that, a club in Norway who is interesred for Daniel Daga sent invitation to the management of the player. He went for capturing more than two months now, but the passport or visa is yet to be out from the embassy,” His guardian said.
“The plan was for Daga to quickly go to Norway, spend three days at least to do his medicals and come back. Sadly, the visa process became unneccessarily long and knowing that the WAFU B U20 tournament is getting closer, i had to contact the secretary of Flying Eagles to inform him of the situation.
“I told the secretary to reach out to the Norwaygian embassy in his official capacity in order for Daga’s international passport to be released urgently for the tournament.
“I gave him the number of the head of Visa in Norwaygian embassy in Accra. The purpose was either for Daga’s passport to be released immediately or for Flying Eagles to make an alternative arrangement for another player to replace Daga.
“This was the same issue that made Daga to miss Enyimba of Aba CAF Confederation Cup game few weeks ago. He only played the home fixture.
“That was the reality of the situation. It is inappropriate for Daga’s name be flying in the media that his agent refused to submit his international passport.
“The player has been in Flying Eagles camp for weeks and he was eagerly looking forward to represent Nigeria at WAFU B U20 tournament, but his international passport is still at the embassy, which ruled him out.
“This is the true story about Daga, not the falsehood peddled to tarnish the image of the player and country,” he said.
Totori News reached out to the secretary of the team, Ali Auwal, who informed that Daniel Daga has been successfully replaced by another player, adding that the 20 players selected by the technical crew
are capable of raising the flag of Nigerian football very high in Togo.
“To be honest, we have moved on. Flying Eagles has replaced Daniel Daga with another player and all the 20 players here are all equal to the task of representing Nigeria well in this tournament,” Auwal said.
“Please, Nigerians should pray that the team will succeed by the grace of God,” he said.
The Flying Eagles arrived Lome, Togo on Tuesday for the WAFU B U20 Championship.
