Nigerians in their thousands trooped out of their homes on Monday as government eased lockdown enforced against the spread of COVID-19 in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun states.
Many Nigerians that went to the bank for some financial transactions were clustered together in a crowd without social distancing in defiance to the rules and regulations on safety regarding the highly contagious virus.
Most banks in Lagos, Ogun and Abuja all had similar experiences as they attended to many customers that came to the bank.
Our findings revealed that most customers were at the bank to renew their ATM cards which expired during the lockdown period. Others came to the bank to clear their cheques for payment.

Some were at the bank to withdraw money from their domiciliary accounts and other financial transactions, but it seems most of the banks were not prepared for the teeming customers they saw today.

Perhaps the sacking of many workers in the banking sector during this lockdown as a result of COVID-19 is responsible for this slow of financial transactions at the banks with many customers feeling frustrated.
