Irrespective of the uncertainties surrounding the future of Favour Ofili, whether to continue competing for Nigeria or not, Hon. Bukola Olopade has said that the welfare of Nigerian athletes is the priority of the National Sports Commission (NSC), reports www.totorinews.com.
Hon. Olopade, the NSC DG revealed this at the World Press Conference in Abuja on Wednesday to herald the African U18 Athletics Championship to be hosted by Nigeria in the city of Abeokuta next month.

According to the former Commisioner of Sports in Ogun State, Favour Ofili remains a Nigerian athlete, where her welfare and others is a great commitment of the NSC and little wonder that the Delta- born athlete and 68 others were paid the 2025 training grants two months ago.
“She has expressed her willingness to continue serving the country. She was among the 69 Foreign based athletes that have received their 2025 Training grant,” Hon Olopade said.

“She is on the NSC payroll, and we paid them two months ago, so it’s surprising to see news of her alleged switch to Turkey.
As of now, she still remains a Nigerian athlete. We paid Ofili two months ago, so it came as a shock when we learnt of her alleged move to Turkey.
“The Commission has established an Elite Athletes and Podium Board to address issues related to athlete support and performance. It prioritises athlete welfare, recognising its importance in creating a supportive environment that allows athletes to thrive.

“Athletes’ welfare is non-negotiable. The Commission reiterates its commitment to supporting athletes both in their sporting endeavours and in life beyond competition,” the NSC DG added.

Further checks by www.totorinews.com. revealed that Ofili and 68 others got $20,000.00 each as training grant for 2025.
