The recent call by the Guild of Sports Editors for the resignation of the NFF board and coach Finidi George seems to stem from a place of frustration rather than an understanding of the challenges faced by the team. While their concerns about the Super Eagles’ performance in the 2026 World Cup qualifying series remain valid judging by the poor run of form of the Super Eagles, a more constructive approach would involve identifying specific areas for improvement.
Instead of harsh criticisms, it would be beneficial for the guild to provide specific examples of what they perceive as “wrong and belated decisions” by the NFF. Constructive feedback could include suggestions for improving decision-making processes and addressing issues such as players’ injuries and unavailability.
Additionally, a more thoughtful discussion around player selection and team dynamics would be valuable. Rather than simply calling for the replacement of certain players, it would be helpful to consider factors such as player development, performance consistency, and the need for a balanced team composition.
Finally, advocating for an overhaul of the technical department and increased corporate support is a worthy goal, but it’s essential to provide actionable suggestions. Concrete proposals for enhancing the technical department and securing corporate support would contribute to a more meaningful dialogue on how the NFF can improve its operations and support the national team.
Moreso, I want to appreciate the Guild of Sports Editors as stakeholders who also want the best for Nigeria Football. I’m appealing to these noblemen of the pen profession to join hands together with the NFF to ensure that the qualification of the Super Eagles to the 2026 World Cup is achieved.
Qualification is still POSSIBLE.
