The jinx trailing the Flamigoes of Nigeria at the FIFA U 17 World Cup since 2008 had been broken less one month in office of Alh. Ibrahim Musa Gusau, after the team defeated United States 4-3 on penalties Scoreline stood at 1-1 in regulation time, reports www.totorinews.com

Omamuzo Edafe was the heroine on the Nigerian side at Mumbai city stadium in India after she converted the last kick, which saw Nigeria scaled the hurdle to qualify for the semi – finals of the tournament which began in 2008.

The defender had earlier put Nigeria ahead in the 27th minute when she scored from the spot, but the lead only lasted for 13 minutes, as Amalica Villareal restored parity for the United States to make it 1-1 going into the break.

The second half was keenly contested, with both sides creating series of chances, but a winner could not emerge after 90minutes.

Nigeria will play the winner between Columbia and Tanzania in the semi – final of the tournament.
