Eric Chelle, may you continue to get your selection and tactics right as you did against Benin Republic is my wish after watching the team nailed the ambition of Gernot Rohr and his Cheetahs on Tuesday.
Chelle has really tried, if not for that last minute equaliser Zimbabwe did in Uyo, Super Eagles would have landed straight in 2026 World Cup due to the three points deduction from South Africa by FIFA.
Nevertheless, i remain very optimistic that if the Super Eagles play the way they did against Cheetahs of Benin, the team will triumph at the play-off tournament in Morocco next month.
The pedigree of teams in the play-off cannot be written off. Gabon is a verygood team, very disciplined and play as a unit. The team is not only about Pierre Aubumeyang alone. So, Super Eagles must approach the game with great caution. Nothing is won until the final whistle.
Meeting either Cameroon or DR Congo will be another cracker, but before then, the Super Eagles must claw Gabon out of the way on 13th November, 2025.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles made Tuesday very terrific for millions of football – loving Nigerians with the 4-0 destruction of Cheetahs of Benin Republic. The Super Eagles we saw on Tuesday is the team Nigerians have adored over the years and that spirit must continue all the way to the continental and inter- continental play-off.
The synergy between the NFF and NSC is highly commendable. It is hoped that it will continue to be stronger as the Super Eagles soar high above all the hurdles enroute the road to 2026 World Cup.
