The ongoing sports reforms was on the front burner on Tuesday when former national team captain Dr. Segun Odegbami paid a working visit to the NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko.
It was an opportunity to deliberate on the gargantuan projects earmarked by the Commission such as the MKO Abiola National Stadium Sports City, aimed at harnessing the potentials of the sports economy. There were discussions on the total renovation and upscaling of the stadium to bring it to full compliance for FIFA certification, including installation of a world-class pitch.
Mallam Dikko operates an open door policy. He jokingly says that his doors are not just open, but he has also left his windows wide open for meaningful suggestions and collaborations that will propel the Commission’s vision of moving the sector from consumption-driven to production-driven, which is basically refocusing on domestic sports instead of international competitions. A meeting with Big Seg availed him this opportunity for cross-fertilisation of ideas.
The NSC Chairman insists that his engagement with critical stakeholders in the sector will be a continuous one.
