It was the 36th edition of the Trofeo Costa del Sol (Costa del Sol Trophy), officially branded the Cervezas Victoria Costa del Sol Cup, played at Málaga’s La Rosaleda Stadium.
Trailing 1-2 behind Fulham that paraded the Nigerian duo of Alex Iwobi and Calvin, Malaga introduced Otu to taste action in the international tournament and the central defender waa a class – act on the field, as he stabilised the defence.
Having fortified the defence of Malaga with his presence, the host team went ahead to level scores 2-2 and subsequently won the trophy after tempers rose and Fulham refused to take part in the lottery of penalties.
However for Otu, it was a different atmosphere when both Iwobi and Bassey discovered that he is a Nigerian after the normal pleasantries among players at the end of the game.
An excited Otu revealed to www.totorinews.com exclusively that he was happy to play against Fulham, and Iwobi and Bassey were glad to realise that he is a Nigerian.
“It was a difficult game, but i was glad that i gave my best. It was a thing of joy for me when i walked up to my Nigerian ‘senior men’ to tell them i am a Nigerian,”
“Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey were happy to know, they gave me some words of encouragement. This really gladenned my heart and help me as i continue to develop my game.
Otu, 20 years old and standing at 6ft.4 inches, joined Malaga from Mavlon Fc of Lagos in 2024.
