Still in the excitement of the qualification of the Super Eagles to the quarter final of the AFCON 2019, Leon Balogun, Super Eagles central defender has said that the win over Cameroon is a perfect response the shocking loss suffered by the team to Madagascar, reports totorinews.
Speaking to totorinews after the tension soaked game at Alexandria stadium on Saturday, where the Super Eagles defeated the Indomitables Lions 3-2, Balogun, who featured in the game said that the game was not perfect performance , but it was a perfect display of fighting spirit from the Super Eagles.
“I think it was not a perfect play from us , but it was a perfect fight and we showed great team spirit. It was a perfect response from the team after the loss to Madagascar. I think we had control of the game, though we lost a little bit of the control after 30 minutes dominance.” Balogun said.
“But, happy we came back to the game and we turned things around. We should just contine to be in high spirit and have faith.
Speaking on his first AFCON experience, the Brighton & Aibion of England defender said it has been an exciting experience so far, but the emphasis should be on the team, not on any individual.
“It is an exciting experience for me definately. I had one very dark moment against Madagascar , but as a team, we bounced back and that is the most important thing, not about individuals. It is about the team.
“I’m happy with the way we fared so far. Madagascar came at the right timing, but i think in the first two games , we won, but we didn’t perform very well.
“So the victory over Cameroon is a big booster for us. There is nothing much to celebrate for now except to look forward to the quarter final game and be ready,” he said.
