The passion to see youths enjoy better future is the driving force behind establishing Genuis Youths Initative, says Inalegwu Oada, founder of the organisation in an exclusive interview with www.totorinews.com.
According to him, Genius Youths Initiave wants to tackle the poor standard of Education especially as it affects Benue state and he believes that their sound educational activities will eliminate lack of interest in education by students.
“Preparing the youths for better future is our main concern. It is the motto of Genius Youths Initiative. We want to put an end to the poor standard of education in Nigeria, particularly in Benue state,” Oada told www.totorinews.com exclusively.
“Poor attitudes to learning in our society. Examination malpractices, bad reading culture, truancy, school drop outs are some of the problems that can crumble the foundation of youths,” he added.
He said that there is a massive decay in the number of genuis in education unlike some years ago and knowing fully well that education is key. It is therefore very important for the youths to embrace education, which is a great platform to securing a better future.
“We have decaying genius. It is becoming more difficult to discover gifted children in our schools today. It is also the reason we have initiated academic talent hunt, which is designed to discover exceptional students in our society.
“We hope to give scholarships to gifted students we discovered so that their being genius will not be wasted.
Speaking further, he said that their target audience are students within the Benue South Senatorial District and there is already a debate competition going on with over 50 secondary schools participating.
“Our Target audience for now are students in Benue South Senatorial District. We have Debate that we are organising and so far over 50 secondary schools are participating.
“Each school has nothing less than 250 students..So we are creating awareness and excitement for the students.
When asked if there are monetary gifts for winners of the debate competition, Oada, who has two Master Degrees in Science Education and Organic Chemistry, after getting his first degree in Chemistry Education said that the organisation will give the winners gifts that are very valuable.
“Not really money but prize tags with money value. First prize is a 14 – seater bus worth 5million naira. Second prize is a library equipment of 1 million naira worth and the third prize is Computer Aided Instructional Gadgets worth half a million.
“We also have lots of consolation prizes. We don’t give cash and we are glad that our initiatives have the approval of Benue State Ministry of Education, but not financial support.
“We will really appreciate well meaning Nigerians, agencies and international bodies to rally support for this noble educational initiative to help the youths,” he concluded.
