The Swiss Gymnastics Federation (STV) has issued a restriction that forbids the taking of “suggestive” pictures or images of gymnasts that are deemed provocative.
According to the German publication Bild, the ban is being implemented to maintain the attention on the gymnast’s poses and stances.
The new STV’s guidelines, maintain that the main goal is to prevent publications of “otherwise ethically sensitive” shots and images of the gymnast’s “crotch.”
A statement by the Swiss Gymnastics Federation reads: ‘To protect gymnasts, the STV strives to ensure that no suggestive or otherwise ethically sensitive photos are published and passed on. Especially photos where gymnasts were photographed in the crotch.’
It added: “The STV is aware that such photos can arise in action photography. However, the publication should be avoided. The main concern of the STV is to sensitise the media professionals and to let common sense prevail.”
Pictures of gymnasts in the splits posture, which you would see on the uneven bars or balancing beam, will be prohibited, depending on the angle at which the photo was taken, the federation said.
