Super Eagles Grind Out Result Against Liberia To Stay On Course For Qatar 2022 World Cup

Two goals from the penalty spot in each half ensured that the Super Eagles condemned the hard fighting Liberia to a defeat in the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying game on Saturday in Tangier, Morocco, www.totorinews.com

Victor Osimhen converted from the spot in the 16th minute after Kelechi Iheanacho was hacked down inside the box and the same scenario repeated itself when Osimhen was infringed upon in added minutes of the second half and Ahmed Musa calmly hit the net to make it 2-0, beyond the reach of the Lone Star.

It was very obvious that the will power and the natural football talents of the Super Eagles players helped the team to grind out favourable result against the Lone Star of Liberia, in a game that gave millions of football loving Nigerians so much tension and anxiety.

As a country with pedigree of having represented the African continent at the world football showpiece six times, the Super Eagles filed out against the Lone Stars of Liberia with strong determination to win the maximum points at stake at the end of 90 minutes.

To be candid, it was a game that Super Eagles did not clearly dominate. The team struggled from the blast of the whistle, but  importance of playing at the World Cup on Qatar appears to be the driving force, as Maduka Okoye in goal for Nigeria was to the rescue during the anxious moments against Nigeria.

It certainly looks great for Nigeria with 12 points from five games as the Super Eagles look forward to hosting the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde.

However, it is not uhuru yet. Cape Verde are not pushovers. Super Eagles should not relax on the wheel and think that they have arrived as the winners of group c.

Their opponents with 10points still have the opportunity to top the group if the team can create an upset as Central African Republic did to Nigeria last month in Lagos. It was the most shocking result on match day 3 of the Qatar 2022 World Cup in Africa.

It is therefore important for Ahmed Musa and his troop to claw their way round the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde to drown them in the coastal city of Lagos when they play at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Surulere on next week Tuesday.
