Super Eagles put smiles on the faces of millions of Nigeria after devouring visiting Cheetahs of Benin Republic 3 -0 at the Godswill Akpabio stadium, Uyo on Saturday evening, reports www.totorinews.com.
A brace from Ademola Lookman and a goal from Victor Osimhen handed Nigeria the maximum points on Match Day One of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers to be hosted in Morocco.
It was a cagey first half that saw both teams create chances, but Nigeria’s pace and intensity caused problems for Benin.
Lookman’s earlier miss was forgotten as he netted in the 45+1′ minute after making a mess of Cheetah’s defence and beating the goal keeper with a low drive.
The second half witnessed further bombardment from the Super Eagles in search of more goals with the trio of Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Boniface and Lookman tormenting their West African neighbours for more goals.
Interim coach, Austin Egwavoen replaced Boniface with Victor Osimhen in the 72nd minute and six minutes later, the reigning African footballer of the year net the second goal for Nigeria.
With two goals advantange, the Super Eagles were in cruise control in total dominance, as Cheetahs gasped for breath in the high altitude the Eagles were flying.
The damage was completely done when Lookman nodded in the third goal in thr 83rd munute after beautiful cross from Moses Simon to seal the win for Nigeria.
The next game on the road to 2025 Morocco is in Kigala where Rwanda will host the Super Eagles on Tuesday. Kick off is 2pm Nigeria time.
