Interim Super Eagles Coach Austin Eguavoen was beaming with all smiles after his team’s convincing 3-0 win over the Cheetahs of Benin Republic, reports www.totorinews.com.
“I’m absolutely delighted with the performance of my team today,” Eguavoen said in the post-match press conference.
“We knew Benin Republic would be a tough opponent, but we prepared well and executed our game plan perfectly.”
At the opposing end, Benin Republic Coach Gernot Rohr was gracious in defeat, congratulating Nigeria on their well-deserved win.
“I’m not surprised by the result, as I know the talent and potential of this team,” Rohr who coached Super Eagles between 2017 – 2021 said.
“They played with confidence and flair, and Ademola Lookman was unstoppable.”
Despite the loss, Rohr remained optimistic, wishing Nigeria all the best for their upcoming matches.
Eguavoen, meanwhile, is looking forward to building on this momentum, saying “We’re back to winning ways, and this is just the start. We’ll keep working hard and pushing ourselves to be the best we can be.”
The win sees Nigeria top their AFCON qualifier group, and they will look to continue their winning streak in their next match.
