Shariff Abdullahi Qassim, the chairman of Kaduna State Football Association has counselled football stakeholders, especially coaches to stop witch-hunting one another, reports www.totorinews.com exclusively.
According to him, he has observed an ugly trend in Nigeria that centres on unnecessary criticism and deliberately wishing a national team to fail because the coach in charge of the team has a different coaching philosophy.
He particularly referred to the encounter he had after the Flying Eagles lost their first game to Senegal at the AFCON U20 tournament in Egypt, as he overheard someone who claimed to be a coach spitting venomous words against Bosso- led Flying Eagles and even wished the team to crash out, but he cautioned him and informed him that the team would bounce back from defeat and qualify for the World cup, which eventually happened.
“It is time Nigerians stop the witch-hunting one another, very sad to see someone who claimed to be a coach castigating a national coach openly and even wishing a national team coach to fail,” Qassim told www.totorinews.com exclusively.
“If a national team fails in an African football tournament, it is Nigeria that failed and I will never support such. That was the reason I had to warn the fellow to stop wishing Flying Eagles failure in Egypt.
“He was livid with anger against Ladan Bosso and he said so many bad words to the extent of wishing Flying Eagles to fail and that was when I became annoyed.
“I told him to desist from it because that was not a noble behaviour and he was not being patriotic to the nation.
“Well, I thank God that the Flying Eagles qualified for the world cup. I prayed for their qualification and I know that lots of Nigerians prayed in that direction too.
“Bosso has done well. NFF provided everything the team needed regarding their preparations for the tournament and I am so glad that the team picked the world cup ticket.
“That is the the most important thing the team achieved,” he said.
