Poverty reigns as FCT is set to pay athletes N20k and officials N90k

At a time when a state like Delta state is paying her gold medal winning athletes N1m for their feat in making the state proud, athletes in FCT are about to step into another realm of poverty as the Federal Capital Territory Administration( FCTA) is set to pay her athletes miserable N20,000. and officials N90,000 for their efforts at the 19th National Sports Festival, hosted by FCT.

It was gathered by totorinews.com that the athletes are not happy with the ugly situation and they are preparing for a showdown with the office of Secretary, Social Development in the FCTA.

This is not surprising to a lot of sports stakeholder in the FCT and this is just another confirmation that the FCTA only pay lips services to encourage the young men and women that have embraced sportS and this is also responsible for the slow pace of development of sports in the FCT.

There is no denying the fact that if given the enabling environment, sports can thrive in the FCT due to the fact that talents abounds at all the Area Council, but neglect and lack of adequate funding regarding sports have contributed to the poor state of sports in the FCT.

Team FCT won the prestigious football gold medal by beating Bayelsa 1-0 in the final game, but a paltry sum of N20,000.00 is the reward per player and N90,000. for the officials. What a life!
