Peseiro Goes Nowhere – NFF Official

If you are waiting to hear that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has parted ways with Jose Peseiro, the Super Eagles manager, you may be disappointed, as the Portuguese tactician still has a mandate yet to be fulfilled.

This was the candid response from a top official in the NFF, who wants to remain anonymous while speaking with www.totorinews.com on the issue surrounding the contract of the former coach of Venezuela.

The astute football administrator said that Peseiro has not failed the terms of the contract given to him, it will therefore be abnormal for the NFF to hammer him with a sack.

“Jose Peseiro goes nowhere. He has a mandate to qualify the Super Eagles for the AFCON tournament, which he has done that by qualifying with a game remaining,” The impeccable source said.

“Another important aspect of the contract given to him is to lead the Super Eagles to at least semi – final of the AFCON in Cote D’ Ivoire next year.

“Let’s wait till what happens at the next year’s AFCON to know the next line of action of the NFF. The man has not failed in the mandate given to him. That is the reality of the situation now.

While reacting to the contract situation of Peseiro, which ends this month, he said that the postponement of AFCON from Janauary this year to next year is the factor to be considered.

“It is a force majeure situation and not the fault of NFF or Peseiro. The tournament was earlier scheduled for January this year before CAF postponed it by a year.

“The clear terms of Peseiro’s contract is yet to be fulfilled and until that is done, we can then talk about whether for him to be retained or sacked,” the NFF official said.
