The performmance of Anuoluwapo Opeyori at the Badminton event of the Paris 2024 Olympics has shown that investment in the game is not in vain, says Bar. Francis Orbih, www.totorinews.com reports.

In an exclusive interview with www.totorinews.com in Paris, Orbih, who is the President of Badminton Federation of Nigeria said that the number one Badminton player in Nigeria and Africa made the country and the entire continent proud, despite him crashing out of the event.

“Impossible is nothing, that is the message, if you set your mind to something with enough commitment, passion and dedication, you will be able to achieve. What Anuoluwa Opeyori did here is something that’s going to resonate for a very long time. He made Africa proud,” Orbih disclosed to www.totorinews.com at the badminton venue, Arena Porte de La Chapelle56 boulevard ney in Paris, France on Friday.

“People saw him play I mean i was being congratulated like he won the match when he lost against world number 6. He put up a superlative performance and people could not believe it.

“So, for me he has sent a very strong message that Africa can do it. We have players in Africa who can already stand up to world class players all over the world and play against them.

The badminton supremo in Nigeria further made appeal to corporate bodies in Nigeria to partner and support the growth of Badminton.

“We are looking for ways to market and sell badminton. We want more cooperate bodies to get involve and show interest in the game, so that more talented youths can be discovered, nurtured and groomed into champions.

“Yes Government is doing their best and we feel that Government can do more, but no matter what the Government do, Government alone can never sponsor sport.

“That is the main reason we call upon more corporate bodies to fund the activities of badminton in Nigeria.

“What happened in Paris Olympics has  given me alot of confidence that investment in badminton is not in vain and if we do more for Opeyori and other Badminton players, Nigeria will shock the world of badminton.
