It was a football frenzy atmosphere at the grand finale of Yoshi Dubai Abuja private schools football tournament at the Wuse Zone sports centre on Saturday where Esteem Learning Centre in Lokogoma emerged champions, reports www.totorinews.com.
The maiden edition of Yoshi Dubai school sports tournament in Abuja, the brain child of the duo of Marcelo Anyanwu and Ahmed Mustapha witnessed raw football talents from private schools in Abuja and football stakeholders, parents and fans who grace the final never had a dull moment.
Esteem Learning Centre, Lokogoma were too strong for CherryField college, Jikwoyi, as they defeated their counterparts 2-0 in the final. Olumawu School, Wuse smiled home with the bronze medal after defeating El -Amin 1-0 in the losers final.
The following distinguished themselves with individual award at the end of the tournament :
Best coach : Douglas Idiaghe from Olumawu
MVP : Abdul Jalal from Esteem Learning Center, Lokogoma
Best goal keeper : Aniche Tobechukwu from CherryField, Jikwoyi.
Fair play player: Samuel Oloye from CherryField Jikwoyi
Highest goal scorer: Hamza Musa for El -Amin School Maitama.

11 schools competed at the tournament and were all given Certificate of Participation.
Speaking at the end of the tournament, Anyanwu commended all the schools that participated, adding that the Yoshi Dubai Abuja private schools football tournament will be a yearly affair everything working out fine.
“I feel really happy here today that myself, my colleague and brother Ahmed Mustapha came all the way from Dubai and did a wonderful job by conducting private school tournaments for primary schools, junior secondary schools and senior secondary schools. Our goal is to revive school sports in Nigeria” Marcelo Anyanwu told the media in Abuja.
“We want to keep organizing this type of tournament from time to time, if we get support from the federal government, corporate bodies, individuals, religious bodies etc., then we take it from there, we can as well take the tournaments to public schools.”
“The reason we are doing this is to give back to the society, harness talents, identify promising and passion young players then we wouldn’t mind to open a football institute in Abuja,” he added.
Meanwhile, the establishment and inauguration of Yoshi Football Academy Dubai Abuja training centre has been scheduled for Saturday, 5th October, 2024.
