Nationwide League One (NLO) the cradle of Nigeria football has commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakad Adamu over the establishment of Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), which has tackled crimes among the youths in Nigeria.
Using the platform of football to drive home the agenda of fighting crime among the youths, NLO has enjoyed good partnership over the years with POCACOV, and the league body has praised the efforts of the special police outfit in contributing to the development of football at the grassroots level in Nigeria.
This was disclosed by Mohammed Alkali, chairman of NLO, after the successful completion of a grassroot football tournament initiated by POCACOV in conjunction with Coal City Football League in Enugu state last week , which he described as a very laudable initiative not only to tackle crime, but also to develop football among the youths.
“NLO is very glad with what POCACOV has been doing since its inception and we commend the Inspector General, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu for establishing POCACOV,” Alkali said.
“We all know that Nigerians especially the youths are very passionate about football and organising such a football league in Enugu state is a welcome development.
“Only God knows how many crimes might have been averted throughout the duration of the league. Engaging the youths in meaningful endeavours like football will go a long way in tackling criminality in Nigeria.
“We really commend POCACOV for being a very active partner with NLO and we hope that more of these football activities will take place in the new year,” he said.
