Minister of Sports to Collaborate with relevant agencies to develope sports

The Hon. Minister of Sports Development Sen. John Enoh has assured the Polo Federation of government willingness to develope grass root Sports including Polo to attract both the Elites and interested general public.

Speaking in his office at Moshood Abiola National Stadium today when members of the Polo Federation visited him to congratulate on his appointment as the Minister of Sports Development and the need to involve Polo at federal level. Sen. Enoh disclosed that Polo is an exciting and passionate Sports that attracts large followership like football thus the need to encourage their active participation in sporting activities.

The Minister said that even though the sports is seen to be domicile in the northern part of the country, the government will intensify effort to provide them with accomodation that will be accessible for them to collaborate with other federations. He also, urged them to partner with the private sector as well as initiate programmes that will enhance the growth of Polo globally. While assuring them that the ministry will collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture to jointly eradicate diseases that shorten the life spam of ponnies and fumigate unfavourable environments that discourage the hosting of events, Sen. Enoh reiterated that this new administration of sports will welcome ideas that will make sports buisness oriented.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation Mr Nura Kangiwa said that Polo is a vibrant game that can attracts tourist and provide employment.

According to him, their Federation has over 150 players, 27 clubs and 33 feilds that are mostly owned by private club owners and state governments. On behalf of his members, he solicitated for an assistance from the federal government to provide them with a land in the FCT where they can build National Polo Grand that will enable them host International Championships.

The President Mr Kangiwa futher appealed to the Hon. Minister to also support them with instruments like tractors for erigation and other enablements that will assist them bring in experts to train their umpires.

Sen. Owan Enoh also, recieved youths from Black Bone Theater Company who expressed their willingness to introduce Dance as sports in the country. He welcomed their initiative and advised them to develop template that will clearly spell out their vision and mission.
