The best of AS Monaco star isn’t just happening yet, George Ilenikhena got a lot more to prove and show he’s made of gold and he’s just 18.
Born in Lagos but arrived in France at age three and settled in Antony, Hauts-de-Seine, one of the Communes in Southern Paris to begin his football career that has remained in the upward curve and looking great.
Monaco, known for grabbing them young financed his switch back across the border after showing great promise at Royal Antwerp, will surely be counting more millions on their investments.
Cutting his teeth in France at Amiens, Ilenikhena continued his brilliant development in Belgium at Antwerp where Ilenikhena became an instant fans’ favourite, firing in the goals and assisting.
Monaco quickly made him a prince after exchanging €20 million hands with Antwerp and the youngster has quickly settled down to business.
Smashing Mpappe’s Monaco’s Champions League record of the youngest goal scorer didn’t take long before Ilenikhena to achieve and grabbing that feat against mighty Barcelona is the principality’s newest song.
France to whom he’s belted junior national team appearances, are keenly watching, and so it should be Nigeria, his country of birth. It’s still unclear if the NFF have had their eyes catching on this youngster whose potential to get and remain at the top is as green as our national flag.
The Barcelona feat not had finesse written all over it but also confirmed full maximum points for the French side and the frenzy that greeted this will take some time to die down.
Ilenikhena with Nigerian blood gushing on his veins has come to stay and the rich principality side will surely get more of those from the youngster whose fleet feet bear goals, assists, bags of feints.
NFF should be watching and matching it with the necessary actions to bring these feet home. Starting with the Flying Eagles would be a great one and projecting into the Super Eagles will be a great master plan.
