ISAAC ADAKA BORO SUPER CUP : DREAM BOYS ACADEMY EMERGE AS CHAMPIONS

The Dream Boys Academy, based in Odi, the hometown of late Isaac Adaka Boro, has emerged as champions of the maiden edition of a tournament put in place to honour the hero of the Ijaw Nation.

The championship, a brainchild of the President of Jude Gbaboyor Football Academy, Isaba was meant to honour late Isaac Adaka Boro, who was a progenitor of the struggle for resource control in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria.

The grand finale, which started with the observation of a minute silence, brought back nostalgic feelings of the struggle for a better deal for the inhabitants of the creeks of the oil-rich region.

It was an emotional moment as the Dream Boys Academy of Odi, Bayelsa state whipped the Ogbe-Ijoh United fc to cart home the star prize, made up of cash and a golden trophy.

In an interview granted to our reporter, the President of Jude Gbaboyor Football Academy, Engr Jude Gbaboyor, a software engineer by profession and an alumnus of the University of East London, said he decided to host the super cup in memory of the late Isaac Adaka Boro, who remains a generational symbol of freedom and liberation of his people.

Marking an “Isaac Adaka Boro Day” has taken many forms, but I have decided to honour this Hero of the Ijaw Nation with a football championship that will be held annually. Towards this end, I have done all the paperwork and can authoritatively inform you that I now own the franchise to organise any tournament in the shape and name of our late icon.

Speeches were rendered, some dedicated to the President of the Jude Gbaboyor Football Academy, the traditional institution of Isaba Community and the people, for their support.
